From national costumes to original jewellery designs

The journey began on 1 November 2004 with the launch of Akikik.dk. The range then included fabrics, decorative ribbons and beads for Greenlandic national costumes. From Allingåbro, Magda helped make these materials available and strengthened the connection between Greenland and Denmark.

This chapter was also featured by Sermitsiaq in the article “Nationaldragten bliver forsynet fra Allingåbro”.

Over time, her work developed from national-costume materials into handmade jewellery and Magda’s own designs. Today she is the creative force behind MLH – Akikik, where Greenlandic stories are given new life in sterling silver.

Inspired by Greenland

Magda’s jewellery draws inspiration from Greenland’s nature, history and culture. Motifs such as the ulu, tupilak and other recognisable Greenlandic symbols are interpreted in a modern, elegant style.

Selected designs feature Greenlandic stones including Tugtupit, Nuummit and Greenlandite. Each stone gives the jewellery its own character and connects the design even more closely to the landscape and culture that inspired it.

More than jewellery

For Magda, jewellery is not only about form and shine. It should also carry a story. Every MLH design is therefore created with respect for tradition and with the wish that its wearer carries a small piece of Greenland.

The meeting of cultural heritage, personal craftsmanship and modern design is what makes MLH – Akikik special.

Magda and MLH – Akikik regularly take part in Greenlandic cultural events in Denmark and Greenland, including Tivoli, Arctic Festival Copenhagen, TUSA in Brædstrup, Family Day in Madsbyparken and Christmas Greetings to Greenland.
